    Neurodevelopmental Testing: Understanding Yourself Better

    Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental Assessment for Adults

Have you spent years wondering why certain things feel harder for you than they seem for others? Do you see your child’s autism or ADHD traits reflected in yourself? Many adults come to understand their own neurodivergence later in life, often while seeking support for their children.

Understanding how your brain works is not just about receiving a diagnosis. It is about gaining clarity, self-compassion, and the tools to navigate life in a way that works for you. Regardless of whether an autism or ADHD diagnosis is part of the outcome, you will gain meaningful insight into your sensory profile, executive functioning, socialization patterns, and your unique strengths and differences. You will walk away with a personalized plan for next steps.

At M Kim O’Connor & Associates, Jo Nappi, LCSW, provides comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments for adults, including an exploration of

:• Autism spectrum traits• ADHD• Sensory sensitivities and processing• Executive functioning• Social functioning•Your strengths and differences

    Who Is This Assessment For?

Our assessment services are designed for adults who:

    • Have long wondered if they might be autistic or have ADHD, but have never been formally evaluated
    • Have had neurodevelopmental evaluations in the past but still have questions or want a second opinion
    • Are parents of neurodivergent children who recognize similar patterns in themselves
    • Struggle with executive function, social communication, or sensory sensitivities, and want to understand why
    • Seek validation and clarity about challenges they have faced throughout their lives
    • Want to access accommodations at work or in academic settings
    • Are looking for a neurodiversity-affirming approach that honors their experiences

“For many adults, receiving an assessment later in life brings profound relief. It’s not about finding something ‘wrong’; it’s about understanding yourself more completely and learning to work with, not against, how your brain is wired.”

    Our Approach

Jo Nappi, LCSW, has completed the Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental Assessment Program through Mindful U Institute, a specialized training that emphasizes evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming assessment practices. She approaches evaluation from a strengths-based perspective that honors neurodivergent identities and understands the nuances that have commonly been missed in traditional assessments. We understand that seeking assessment as an adult can feel vulnerable. Our process is collaborative, respectful, and designed to center your experiences and self-knowledge.

Is This the Same as a Neuropsychological Evaluation?

No. A neurodevelopmental assessment is not the same as a comprehensiveneuro psychological evaluation. Neuropsychological evaluations typically assess a broader range of cognitive functions, including memory, processing speed, and other cognitive domains, and are conducted by licensed psychologists. Our assessment is specifically focused on neurodevelopmental profiles: autism, ADHD, sensory processing, executive functioning, and adaptive functioning. It is conducted by a trained clinician using evidence-based tools and is designed to provide meaningful insight and a personalized action plan. If a full neuropsychological evaluation appears warranted based on your presentation, she will discuss that with you and provide referral guidance.

The Assessment Process at a Glance

Why Seek Assessment as an Adult?

Adults seek neurodevelopmental assessment for many reasons, and all of them are valid:

    • Self-Understanding: Finally having words for lifelong experiences and patterns• Validation: Confirmation that your struggles are real and have a neurological basis• Self-Compassion: Replacing self-criticism with understanding of how your brain works• Strategic Support: Identifying specific accommodations and strategies that can help• Community: Connecting with neurodivergent communities and resources• Advocacy: Documentation to support workplace or academic accommodations• Treatment Planning: Informing therapy, medication management, or other interventions

    Common Questions

What if I’m not sure I need an assessment?
We offer initial consultations to help you explore whether assessment is right for you. There is no pressure to proceed if it does not feel like the right fit.

I don’t have childhood records. Can I still be assessed?
Yes. While developmental history is helpful, we understand that many adults do not havedetailed childhood documentation. We work with the information available and focus on yourcurrent functioning and lived experience.

What if I’ve developed coping strategies that mask my traits?
This is incredibly common, especially among adults who were not identified as children. Out assessor is trained to recognize masked presentations and understands that successful coping does not negate underlying neurodivergence.

    Do you work with insurance?
We operate out-of-network and provide support to clients seeking reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits. We are happy to discuss costs and insurance options during your initialconsultation.
