About Me
I am an educator, a husband, a father, a brother, a son, an athlete, a dog owner, a music lover and more. I believe that we thrive through rich, meaningful relationships. Therapy, at its best, can serve as a model and a guide in building and maintaining those relationships with the people around us. I’ve been a helper for as long as I can remember.
I graduated with a counseling degree from the University of Pennsylvania. During my time there, I took in all I could from the bright and creative people around me. I interned during the day, waited tables in the evenings, lived at home, and cherished the borrowed time I had with my parents and siblings.
I am a mental health counselor and former school counselor with experience working with youth and adults in schools, residential treatment centers, mental health centers and not-for-profits.
My Approach
My work is rooted in a client-centered approach. In my work with adolescents especially, I maintain a direct but informal style, focused on setting and achieving measurable goals, establishing agency, and developing a voice with which to self-advocate and express concerns to the stakeholders in their lives. My work is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and other tenets of positive psychology. I am constantly reading, learning and growing, working to incorporate modalities that will best serve my clients. Most of all, I want my clients to feel safe, respected and cared for.
My Specialties
I support young people battling depression and anxiety (including school refusal), ADHD and executive functioning challenges, grief and loss, parental divorce and separation and more. I frequently work with young people on the Autism spectrum, people questioning their gender identity and/or sexual orientation, and young people transitioning from high school to college and college to beyond.
It is a privilege when a young person lets you into their complicated and deeply personal world.
My Self-Care
I love exercise, music and reading. I like to get outside, and prioritize time with family and friends. I play soccer, piano, and write when I can.
